WHY WE PUT ALL OF OUR EGGS IN ONE WELDED STEEL BASKET

WHY WE PUT ALL OF OUR EGGS IN ONE WELDED STEEL BASKET - Fisher Tank

Here at Fisher Tank Company, we design, fabricate and build tanks for a surprising variety of industries, and we build them with an infinite number of differences, depending on what they’ll hold and how they’ll function. We build tanks to fit into tight spots and to withstand hurricanes and earthquakes. We build tanks to hold crude oil, fertilizer and orange juice, and we build water tanks to hold safe drinking water for entire communities. But we build all those different tanks out of just one thing: welded steel.

We believe in welded steel, whether it’s carbon steel or stainless steel, as the absolute best choice for safety and value in a storage tank. Why?

Welded Steel Tanks Are Safe.

From drinking water to anhydrous ammonia storage, welded steel tanks provide safe storage. Governed by the American Petroleum Institute’s standards, and/or the American Water Works Association’s standards, field erected welded steel tanks are designed specifically for what they’re going to hold and what they need to do. Every opening, access point, and roof is designed to provide functionality and safety. Roof seals, vents, piping, internal floating roofs, and even the tank foundations, work in concert to protect the tank’s contents as well as the community and the environment.

Welded Steel Tanks are Sustainable.

Steel is recyclable. In the US alone, more steel is recycled annually than glass, paper and aluminum combined – more thank 44 million tons each, according to the Steel Recycling Institute. Steel scrap is a key resource for making new steel.

Welded Steel Tanks Don’t Leak.

AWWA standards indicate allowable leakage tolerances for concrete tanks and for bolted steel tank floors. API standards have a zero-leakage tolerance for welded steel tanks. Only welded steel provides an impermeable, yet flexible, monolithic structure for safe, leak-free liquid storage.

Welded Steel Tanks Are Flexible.

Welded steel is literally flexible – tanks can be built to specifications for hurricane force winds as well as seismic activity – not to mention the variable forces of filling and draining, and heating and cooling of the tank’s contents. Welded steel is ductile, yet stronger than any other materials used for tanks. It’s also figuratively flexible – welded steel tanks can be designed to meet aesthetic requirements, specific volume requirements, custom roof types, and special exterior coatings that include logos, images, murals or other decorative features.

Welded Steel Tanks Last.

There’s no such thing as a “maintenance-free” storage tank, but welded steel tanks require only basic regular maintenance in order to function for decades. The appropriate coating system coupled with regular inspection can keep a welded steel storage tank in great shape with minimal expense. Extensive coatings work, such as blasting to the bare metal and repainting, is required only every 20-30 years for water tanks, according to STI/SPFA. You can assess your options and learn more about the cost of maintaining a welded steel storage tanks with STI/SPFA’s Total Cost of Ownership tool.

We’ve been working with welded steel since 1948. We believe in welded steel as the safest, most reliable, and most valuable choice for storage tanks. That’s why we put all our eggs in one welded steel basket!
